Case study: Making a Colloide’ continuous filtration plant work How do you turn a non-functioning filtration plant into a stable, reliable system that meets strict discharge standards? In practice, it requires more than technical adjustments alone, it demands a thorough analysis, targeted refurbishment, and intelligent monitoring. For a UK water utility, an existing Colloide® continuous tertiary filtration plant that had struggled to operate consistently was successfully revitalized. By combining technical upgrades, process optimization, and continuous Sand-Cycle monitoring, the plant was brought back to design performance: meeting consent levels for solids, iron, and phosphorus with consistent results. Curious about the approach, the commissioning ... Read more

Towards safe drinking water for the Hammanskraal community in South Africa The community of Hammanskraal in the North West Province of South Africa has water issues for decades. Water supply is erratic in the best of times and non-existent in the worst of times. In April 2024 the construction of the 50 Mld Klipdrift Package Plant was granted to Tecroveer by consulting engineers ProPlan and Magalies Water Board. With the objective to start operations of the first 12.5 Mld package plant by the end of October 2024. Construction and assembly of the package plant are well underway. We are proud ... Read more

Sand-Cycle applied at KA Brühl, Germany Work is currently underway on the 4th purification phase at the municipal wastewater plant of the city of Brühl, Germany. This purification phase will ensure further removal of micro-pollutants, medicine residues and microplastics in wastewater. The work consists of the implementation of ozonation and continuous DynaSand filtration. To fully provide the purification with all conveniences, Sand-Cycle remote monitoring will be used here. In this way, the operation of the continuous filters can be monitored remotely. Curious about all the benefits of Sand-Cycle? Please feel free to take a look at our website.

Leominster’ sewage post treatment plant up and running Dwr Cymru Welsh Water invested in upgrading its Leominster STP to meet more stringent criteria for phosphorus. As part of the program tertiary continuous filters have been implemented and put in operation as from February 15th 2024 onwards. Main contractor Morgan Sindall and contractor Nijhuis Industries UK & Ireland executed the work. We designed and supplied the filter units. Besides P removal the tertiary treatment plant is used for biological nitrification to convert ammonia into nitrate-nitrogen. The final effluent is discharged into the River Lugg. The upgrade of the treatment works is ... Read more

Bio-GAC technology for removing medicine residues During the AquaNL exhibition the latest results regarding removal of medicine residues with our biologically enhanced moving bed granular activated carbon filtration (bio-GAC) technology have been presented. The technology combines the adsorption and bio regeneration of medicine residues and physical-chemical phosphorus removal. Hence it will be an appropriate solution to both meet the criteria for nutrients and medicine residues as indicated in the EU Water Framework Directive. Hans Wouters explained the objectives of the research and highlighted the process set-up. For those who could not attend and for those who would like to know ... Read more

Industrial waste water treatment: turning a pilot into full scale Last week our client, an international fertilizer processing company, started the construction of the foundation for a new waste water treatment plant, prior to discharging onto surface water. The main goal is to remove phosphorus to meet the new consent levels. The initial ideas for the set-up of the waste water treatment plant have been composed and tested by Geert Notenboom (http://www.wacono.nl/) and Anthoney Marta (https://www.amart.nl/). Prior to designing the full scale plant (capacity 60 m3/h), a pilot plant is operated to determine the final basis of design and control ... Read more
