Dat stelt waterschap Vechtstromen, een van de initiatiefnemers van de proef die startte bij de puurwaterfabriek in Emmen.\nBij dit onderzoek met de offici\u00eble naam 'Bio-GAK wordt gebruikgemaakt van koolkorrels die samen met een filter zorgen voor de afbraak van medicijnresten en verwijdering van fosfaat. Dat gebeurt voordat het rioolwater wordt geloosd in oppervlaktewater zoals kanalen, sloten en rivieren. In een kort interview worden de achtergronden en drijfveren van het onderzoek besproken. De proefinstallatie, bestaande uit een reactor met biologisch versterkt actief koolfilter, is volledig in bedrijf bij Wtw Emmen. Er worden regelmatig monsters genomen om de verwijderingsrendementen voor een groot aantal medicijnresten te bepalen. Ook worden de ecotoxiciteit en diverse andere parameters, waaronder fosfor, gecontroleerd.
