Bio-GAC technology for removing medicine residues
During the AquaNL exhibition the latest results regarding removal of medicine residues with our biologically enhanced moving bed granular activated carbon filtration (bio-GAC) technology have been presented.
The technology combines the adsorption and bio regeneration of medicine residues and physical-chemical phosphorus removal. Hence it will be an appropriate solution to both meet the criteria for nutrients and medicine residues as indicated in the EU Water Framework Directive.
Hans Wouters explained the objectives of the research and highlighted the process set-up. For those who could not attend and for those who would like to know more, the video of Hans’ contribution at the STOWA webinar is now online (in Dutch): IPMV-webinarreeks, deel 5: Bio-GAK en resultaten onderzoek PFAS-verwijdering en antibioticaresistentie | STOWA
For those who would like to read a summary of the results so far, we have now published a two-pager in the Spring edition of the Institute of Water Journal. Please use this link.
