Coagulation – hydraulic flocculation – tilted plate separation of surface water for process water production
Is direct continuous filtration thé solution to treat surface water?   The straight answer is: no, not always, but sometimes it might be! If it is suitable it is a wonderfully simple process set-up: after feed strainers you apply a continuous sand filter with in inline feed dosing of coagulants. The filter acts as a flocculator and a floc separator, resulting in a stable high quality filtrate.   But how do we know when this is feasible? We tried to offer you some guidance.   For surface water treatment the solids loading to the filter is based upon variable feed
Continuous filter plant
As a matter of urgency… Do you know this feeling, when you are faced with a problem in your water or waste water treatment plant which cannot wait to be solved, as it is directly impacting your businesses?  The stress, once you are being told any remedies might take weeks, even months? We have come across these emergency situations and were lucky to offer our clients temporary solutions. For this we are using our rental fleet, which is composed of numerous water treatment plants of various capacities. It will normally fit any request for immediate treatment capacity. As we know
German paper mill Sand-Cycle integrated
German paper mill now “running in Sand-Cycle mode” Good quality process water is crucial for most of our clients in order to be able to execute the core businesses. This is particularly the case for the german paper mill Niederauer Mühle in Kreuzau. It is specialized in white corrugated medium paper. The high quality paper is used as printed cover layer for cardboards and as headliner. Niederauer Mühle is using surface water as the source to make process water of high quality. A direct filtration plant based on DynaSand filter technology (Nordic Water GmbH) is part of the process water

Stretching continuous filtration for process water production and wastewater treatment. Continuous granular media upward flow filters have been widely used for various drinking water and wastewater treatment applications. In wastewater tertiary applications, they have been implemented for solids, biochemical oxygen demand, and nutrient removal. In surface water and ground water treatment, continuous filters produce processed water. In cooling water bypass filtration, continuous filters are very useful to keep the cooling water system clean, reduce chemical consumption, and blowdown volumes. New applications, focusing on removal of microconstituents are stretching the operating window further by using granular activated carbon as the filter
Sand filter units at the Barbengo WWTP
Sand-Cycle applied in Switzerland Full scale trials at WwTP Barbengo in Switzerland are executed to remove micropollutants in the waste water effluent, which is discharged into Lake of Lugano. EAWAG is managing the project which will focus on powdered activated carbon dosing prior to the tertiary continuous sand filters. In collaboration Techfina from Switzerland and Nordic Water GmbH Sand-Cycle will be implemented to monitor the sand filter performance during the trials. This is the first Swiss Sand-Cycle reference. Switzerland is ahead of the European market for micropollutant removal from municipal waste water, governed by  national legislation. Tertiary DynaSand filters, which
