New purification technology for micropollutants removal looks promising

Our research to remove micropollutants, such as medicine residues, and phosphorus in one reactor, has been picked by the Dutch radio broadcasting RTV Drenthe. I a short interview the backgrounds and drivers of the research are discussed. The pilot unit, consisting of a biologically enhanced granular activated carbon filter reactor, is in full operation at WwTW Emmen, the Netherlands. Regular samples are taken to determine the removal efficiencies for a large number of medicine residues. Also, eco-toxicity is monitored and a variety of other parameters, including phosphorus.
